Ali Rapp was born in Lima, Peru, and grew up in an environment rich with handcrafted arts thanks to her mother, fashion designer Meche Correa, and her father, an antique dealer. This creative atmosphere profoundly influenced her artistic development. After moving to Texas, Ali began exploring drawing and developing the child characters she would later become known for. During her adolescence, she immersed herself in art, music, and culture, which became the foundation of her work.
Ali studied at the Glassell School of Art in Houston before moving to New York to study photography at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. In New York, with her mother’s support, Ali decided to turn her passion into a professional career, actively seeking opportunities to showcase her work. Her persistence paid off when renowned designers Anna Sui and Patricia Fields recognized her talent and decided to support her.
Ali launched her line "Ali Rapp for Anna Sui" at Anna Sui's SoHo store, where her bags and dolls sold out multiple times. She also achieved success at Patricia Fields Hotel Venus and VICE, further establishing her reputation in the market.
After her success in New York, Ali chose to return to Houston to focus on her family and raise her child. During this time, she was commissioned by the Museum of Fine Arts and IKEA to design exclusive products such as bags, wallets, scarves, and bow ties for both humans and pets. These items were successfully sold at the Museum of Fine Arts store.
In 2024, Ali Rapp launched her collection "Return to the Around the Sun," marking her return to independent creation. With the support of friends and family, she has formed a team to revitalize her line and bring it back to the market. Currently, Ali divides her time between Houston, New York, and Peru while managing her collection and continuing her artistic career.
Ali Rapp for Anna Sui
“I’ve always been attracted to Ali’s adorable young-at-heart sensibility. Over the years, she has created for me the most charming totes, turbans, caplets, hoodies and dolls... all featuring her iconic naïve cartoon characters that everyone loves. It’s been a privilege and joy collaborating with her.” — ANNA SUI
